Foley artists work behind the scenes on film and television broadcasts to reproduce sound effects. They use a variety of instruments, objects, and sound libraries to create or realistically mimic the sound that accompanies an action for a film or television sequence.

They interpret footage or take verbal direction from others in order to create or enhance a specific sound. They operate and maintain audio consoles for recording, synchronizing, and mixing sound effects.

Foley artists are employed by recording studios, film post-production studios, radio stations, multimedia companies, and on film sets.
