IT Specialists plan and coordinate the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software. They provide technical assistants on the telephone as well as in person to staff or on a contractual basis.
Additionally, IT Specialists research and analyze documentation and summarize their findings in the form of reports and presentations. They are responsible for designing new, or modifying existing technical software to meet client and company requirements. They install and customize software packages to meet individual client needs.
IT Specialists are employed throughout the public and private sectors or may be self-employed.
Skills
IT Specialists typically have a degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Science, or Information Systems Management, or they may have a degree in a field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, or Engineering.
