Lighting Technician : Broadcasting : Technician

Lighting Technicians work behind the scenes on film sets, theatre productions, and television broadcasts. They are interpret scripts or taking verbal direction from others in order to create or enhance a specific and appropriate mood or tone. They setup and operate lighting equipment, which can include rigs, scaffolding, and cranes. They must ensure the safe use, maintenance, and storing of the equipment.

The Lighting Technician may be required to visit locations prior to filming to assess lighting requirements. They manage multiple lighting setups for the duration of the film or theatre production. They must work as a team with other technicians such as the floor manager, producer and director.

Lighting Technicians are employed by motion picture and video production companies.
